SiliSippers Glasses and Lids Review

It has taken my daughter (now 2.5 yo) a long time to switch from sippy cups to "real"cups.  I have had a difficult time getting her to finish her water or milk using an adult cup, so I went on a search for the best solution to the problem.  I came across several options online, including the SipSnap silicone cup cover that converts any glass you may already have into a sippy or straw cup for your toddler or child.  Unfortunately the SipSnap is still only available for pre-order.
I recently ordered the Silly Sippers glasses with silicone cup covers from Stork Organic Baby Boutique.   Let me start off by telling you about the customer service. The shipping fee was $6.95 to my address, but may differ depending on where you live.  When I received the box, it was well packaged with the glasses wrapped in paper.  There was plenty of recycled paper in the box to protect the contents and everything was in one piece upon arrival.  I thought I should also mention that the shipping statement had a handwritten note on it.  I hardly ever see that anymore, so I thought that was a nice touch- a reminder that there are humans on the other end of the computer when you order online!

Now, the cups and covers themselves. I was worried the cover would not fit any of the cups/glasses I own already, and these looked like they would be easier to grasp with little hands.  The glass is too small (7.4 ounces) for my daughter, and I feel that I am refilling constantly, more than once in a single meal/session.  So while the glasses are convenient if you do not own anything similar and are purchasing for a younger child (younger than 2 yo), I do not believe they are necessary.

The covers are great: easy to clean, nice colors, and they fit snug on cups.  These are made of 100% silicone, which is really great as there is no potential for dangerous chemicals to leak into your child's drinks. They are also dishwasher, microwave, and freezer safe. Once I received my order, I immediately tested it out on all my household mugs/glasses.  The lids fit over everything in my cupboard, which is great for when I really can't use these cups for my daughter.  As I said above, she empties these glasses so quickly that it really is more convenient to uses a larger size cup instead. The lid has a small slot on one side to encourage to learn how to drink properly from cups rather than using a sucking motion.  It is the perfect transition step for children, reducing the risk of spilling and making a huge mess.  These are NOT spill-proof by any means, but it does reduce the mess.  Another convenience is that I can easily stick these in her diaper/travel bag.  I take the lids with me when we go out, easily converting the restaurant glasses into a toddler-friendly cup.

Final verdict: I love this toddler lid!  At first, my daughter had a difficult time with the lid because she was accustomed to sucking on a straw or spout, but she quickly learned to control the angle of the cup to get the proper amount of milk or water in from her cup.  The glasses themselves are nice and useful if you do not have anything else already, but otherwise they are really small for my daughter, and she empties them really quickly.

Have any of you tried the Silisipper before?  If you have, let me know what you think below!  Also, I am still looking for any recommendations for toddler cups to try out, please share in the comments!

Thanks

Introductions

Hello World!

I am a (almost) 30-something, aspiring makeup artist, lifestyle blogger, with an undergraduate degree in Biology and a graduate degree in Education.  I am also married to my best friend and mom to a toddler.  Things do get hectic in my house, but I am learning along the way.

Why did I start this blog?

Well, first of all, I love to write and I love to share.  I try out new products (both beauty and baby related) all the time.  If you are like me then you try to get as much information as possible about products before you spend your money.  I love reading reviews and others' experiences, and I believe that I can contribute to this community through sharing my opinions and experiences.

Second, I find this a great way to connect with others that may be in a similar position.  I am an Afghan-American, living in the Stafford, Virginia (a far suburb of Washington, D.C.).  I find it a daily struggle to balance my parents' Afghan culture (and Muslim identity) and my American upbringing.  I do not see this voiced very often in the online community, and would like to use this as a space where we can do that.

This also leads me into the representation of Afghans, Middle East, and South Asians in the online beauty  community.  It can be difficult to listen to a "beauty guru" (wow, do I hate that term) who shares colors and products that do not work for my particular skin tone.  I feel that I can share products that will work for ladies with medium skin tones, or anyone else interested in beauty products for clients with medium skin tones.

Finally, I hope to meet others out there that may share the same interests or may want to participate in sharing their thoughts on this blog.

Thanks for coming by and reading, I hope you find this space a useful resource, or a way to get some light reading in (haha).
